3 Skypephones are Sexy

Pictured above: My panties and my Skypephone
I’m not an atheist but I’m no holly roller either. Just a few weeks ago I was bemoaning the fact that I own a shit mobile phone. I've had this shit phone since I lost my other one in August.
So the lord answered my mobile phone prayers days later when I was asked if I wanted to test out the 3 Skypephone.
The 3 Skpyephone is a nifty little gadget that I have really loved using over the past few weeks.
What I like about it:
- Good weight – feels good in the hand.
- Easy to switch between predictive and regular text.
- It’s got Skype!!! Free skyping! I called Kiki in New York and it worked great.
- The buttons have a good feel to them.
- The phones are only £50. Mine was free which makes me love it even more. In fact 3 were nice enough to send me two phones. Score! I gave the other one to my pal Lil’ Kamcha. That being said, 3 currently have a deal in which you can get two 3 Skypephones for £89. That’s great deal The phone itself seems as if it would cost about £100.
- The phone is 3G and the connection to the internet fast. Much better than GPRS. I was able to easily check my Facebook (before the bastards deleted my account.
- You can re-charge the battery via the USB port. I love that. All mobiles should have that. So I keep my charger at home and my USB charge in my computer at work.
- Good battery time during standby, but using the internet really drains your phone.
Conversely, there were a few things I didn't like about the phone.
- Only a 2.0 Mega pixel camera. Surely they can do better than that?
- No Mac compatibility. Yeah, you can connect to it via Bluetooth. I’m just a bit tired of always having to do extra work just to make my mobile work with my Mac.
- Skype In doesn’t work with this mobile, which I think is crazy! Skype In is the service that allows your friends and family call a land line. The calls are then diverted to your Skype Account. For example: My mom in New York dials a local New York City number. The call comes through on my computer and we can chat via Skype. That, however, doesn’t work with this mobile. If my mom dials my Skype number the call doesn’t divert to my phone. Instead it goes to answerphone. Not very convenient.
- Transferring MP3 to it via the USB cord is painfully S-L-O-W. I tried to transfer a 30MB podcast to the phone. While waiting for this to transfer I went to the bathroom, went out for lunch, ate my lunch had 15 minute meeting, flossed my teeth, checked and my e-mail. And even after all this, it still took another 10 minutes. Very annoying.
- I had a few problems with the phone lock. I’m not sure why. But I’d go to reach for my phone out of my bag only to discover I’ve nearly drained the whole battery because the phone had been illuminated for the past hour.
- No POP 3. Seems like the only way I can check my e-mail is through the web. Gmail works well, but signing in for the first time felt really clunky. And if you should happen to have more than one Gmail account you’re constantly signing in one and out the other.
The biggest problem with this phone, isn’t the phone itself. It’s that not enough people have it. Or not enough people have Skype. Actually almost all my friends have Skype, but none of them are ever logged on. What’s up with that? I had to get on my computer and instant message my friends to tell them to get on Skype. Just so I could phone them with my Skype phone. That almost defeats the purpose.
The only people constantly logged into Skype was the Sound Test Service and Lil’ Kamcha (my pal who had the other phone).
If all my friends had 3 Skypephones then hands down it would be best mobile ever. Instead it feels like a novelty feature that you’d use a few times but ultimately forget about.
In general, I liked this phone. Was it my dream phone? No. Was it an improvement on what I had? Yes. Is it worth its purchase price? Definately.
Now if you’d like a FREE 3 Skypephones you’re in luck. Here’s the contest info sent to me by the nice folks at 3.
http://www.3mobilebuzz.com/2007/12/07/3mobilebuzz-is-running-a-competition/
Here’s how it works:
We at 3mobilebuzz are running a little competition - the winner gets three 3 Skypephones, second place gets two and third place gets one. Also two devices will be awarded to the blog that refers the winning entry.
All entrants need to do is tell us why they want a 3 Skypephone – and it can be done however they want as long as it can be linked to. For example, it could be a blog post, forum thread or simple webpage, a picture or a set on Flickr (here’s something 3mobilebuzz knocked together), a link to a YouTube video (can you do better than this) or even a Facebook group where 100 friends sign up and support the quest
for a 3 Skypephone. The more creative the better.
The only rules are: the content needs to be original, not ripped off an insignificant YouTuber (we’ll know because you have to tag all your videos 3mobilebuzzcomp1!), and the URL of the site which brought the competition to entrants attention needs to be included on the entry email. The deadline for submissions is midday on Monday 17th December.
Entries must be sent to the hallowed keeper of prizes, enforcer of rules and judge of all, Jack@3mobilebuzz.com.
As always we’ll keep everyone updated as to the best submissions via
www.3mobilebuzz.com
We await your gems of creativity in the name of free goods!
