Is anyone else obsessed with their period?  I'm not obsessed in a sicko way.  But when things are out of wack, I am straight on Google trying to figure out what's going on with my body.

All my life with the exception of my very first period and when I had the flu freshman year, my periods have been as regular as clockwork.  I'm a 28-day cycle girl with an actual period that last 3 days.

For some reason, this year my period has gone all wacky.  And of course this wackiness started as soon as my met my boyfriend.  This menstrual weirdness is really stressful because my boyfriend and I aren't using birth control.

In June this year, seemingly out of the blue, I started spotting.  I never spot.  Never ever.  It wasn't enough spotting to wear a pad, but when I wiped it was obvious.  My period wasn't due for another 10 days. Two days later my boyfriend and I were in bed.  He was eating me out early one Sunday morning.  After we were done, I got up to feed the dog.

I entered the kitchen.  Suddenly I felt something let loose inside me.  I looked down and blood -- I mean a LOT of blood was streaming from my pussy.  There were no menstrual cramps or anything.  There was no pain.  It looked like I had been in a really bad accident.  A pool of blood was forming on the floor.  There were no clots in the blood.  I didn't understand what was going on.  Although the amount of blood tapered off, I kept bleeding for 7 days.  Much longer than my normal period.

I couldn't figure out what was going on.  In the back of my mind I was wondering if I had a miscarriage?  Surely that would be painful, right?  I had no pain.  Just lots of blood.

Twenty-Eight days later I was expecting my period.  It was late, really late.  Over a week late.  The sheer agony of having to wait for your period in between taking pregnancy tests (all negative) really made me re-think the birth control issue.

My boyfriend was so excited about the prospect of being a dad that he proudly marched into a pharmacy and declared that he wanted a pregnancy test for his "lovely girlfriend."  Meanwhile I felt like hanging my head in shame. I felt so embarrassed.  Not that pregnancy is anything to be embarrassed about but I guess I felt like a naughty teenager who had just been caught doing something wrong.

All 4 pregnancy tests I took were negative.  Finally after 10 days my period came.  Since then my period has been normal, until yesterday.

My period wasn't due for another 10 days but I started spotting again. Spotting is not normal for me.  This spotting was  different than the previous time it happened.  The spotting was brown.  A dab of it had shown up in my panties.  I spent a lot of time Google what it could be?  Implantation bleeding? Early period?

I tried talking to my boyfriend about it, but he gets REALLY freaked out about menstruation issues.

As it turned out, my period came early.  I don't know why.  10 days is pretty freakin' early if you ask me.        It also turned out that Google and Yahoo really didn't help.  There were no conclusive answers to be found.  In fact, there was a lot of conflicting information.  There are thousands upon thousands of women with period dilemmas posting their questions on the internet. Despite whatever their period issue was about 90% of the women ultimately wanted to know, "Can I be pregnant?"

There must be a better way to get answers about your period?  I really don't like all the guess work.  All i want to know is: Why did my period come early? and Why was I spotting?  It's never happened to me before, so why now?

If you have an opinion on this, please leave a comment.

Caroline had the exact same thing happen to her when we got together and had to be extra cautious about what was going on. She also said that before we met she had been pretty regular.

Also I know Cals cycle was (see our upcoming blog post for why 'was') really sensitive to stresses. Having kept up with your blog these recent months I know your job situations have been stressing you out maybe this has something to do with it?

A consultation with your GP might provide some reassurance. Also agree with Chris & Cal: you've had some stressful life events that might have had an effect on hormone regulation. Get it checked out!

You should go on the pill.

Stress is always the culprit when I am having an off cycle. I wouldn't suggest going on the pill for cycle regularity though. Your hormones get ugly when you play around with them. Real ugly.

About every 7 years so I heard it is normal for your cycle to go a little out of wack due to hormonal imbalances.shifts. depending on when you first got your period.
Also stress has a huge factor on periods-if you are stressed about being pregnant it could make sense you are late.
Also-having regular sex does change around your hormones because your body biologically goes into baby making mode so that could be a reason too! Hormones are a delicate and complicated thing. Don't worry as long as you are getting your period with no pain, you should be perfectly healthy. If it keeps happening-get some blood tests and things checked out.
